BNI is a great platform for getting more leads and referrals. But look closely. I see BNI Rendezvous to be much much more than that. This chapter has helped its members to grow and evolve as individuals.

When I came on board, I took on the role of Visitor Host. That meant getting to the meeting location waaay before other members and visitors arrived. That meant waking up at *gasp* 530AM!

 

But the role really helped me to be more disciplined and to be more responsible. Having to play host and meet people really broke me out of my shell. My experience as a Visitor Host helped me to become a better client liason in my work. I was relating much better with my prospects and clients.

So why am I telling you this story?

Every man and woman has the desire to evolve. The truth is, most of us are very happy to stay in our comfort zones, and as a result, we stagnate. BNI Rendezvous is special because we champion personal growth and evolution. When you take the courage to step out of your comfort zone, you evolve and expand as a person. That overflows into your business; you and your business become more attractive.

We encourage ownership and responsibility, so that each member contributes in an area that they are good at, or they can explore an area where they wish to grow. These will help them focus better and take charge of their business better.

BNI is also a support group. Daisy, our beautician, has been running her small business for the past 18 years. Expansion and starting a franchise was always on her mind, but she did not have the know-how and confidence as she was a one-woman show; there was no one to give encouragement, suggestions and ideas.

Since she joined our chapter, she found the courage to put her ideas and plans to paper, and take steps to building a franchise. Why now? Because she has learnt many things from her fellow members and they are all eager to support her.

Members have become more focused in their business and at the same time, widened their horizons in terms of business ideas and solutions. BNI is a community to help you focus on your business, instead of just being in your business.

So, members, are you making full use of your membership? Or are you just going through the motions? Take this opportunity to have the courage and commitment to be more than just an ordinary member. Be a member who is willing to contribute in any way you can, even if you are not taking on a designated role. A chapter is only as good as its members.
